Dusseldorf is shit. Barking is where it's all happening

It's a bit like having a long weekend in Milton Keynes.

Go to Köln instead. Far better.

Düsseldorf does have a nice airport though.

We had a great stay there for the Schalke tournament last year.
Rhein cruise & Altbier drinking were the highlights.

Great city is Dusseldorf. Altstadt, koenigsallee, Christmas Market, lived 6 months there and loved every minute.

Go to Altstadt, lots of nice bars in a nice area.

Go to the Esprit Arena and relive the moment Blue stepped onto stage and into history, competing for the UK at Eurovision in 2011.

Avoid the area around the station. Pass through it, but don't hang around it.

The city itself is crap but there are some interesting things in the outskirts - the Neanderthal museum and Benrath Palace. You can train it to both of them.

260 bars in one sq km, what could go wrong?

When I was in Cologne, I preferred Düsseldorfer Alt to Kölsch.

Unusually for German beer, it's top-fermented, like most English beers.

Go to Wupperthal and have a go on the schwebebahn, an old monorail train which follows the course of the river . Quite a unique experience
